Puck, Pucks, Everywhere

Pucks, Pucks, Everywhere

After years of collecting pucks, my kid’s total now stands at 113. There are NHL team pucks, Stanley Cup commemorative pucks, junior/minor team pucks, tournament pucks, pucks from cities I visited, autographed pucks, and vendor pucks.

What does he do with all those pucks?

We’ve tried display cases that hang on the wall.  We’ve tried the cases that sit on the shelf. We’ve tried placing them on wall shelves, ever so carefully, so they don’t roll off. There are just too many of them now. It was time for a reality check. In another few years, when he is no longer a “youth” and may not be playing hockey (Like I said…reality…he will not be going to the NHL), what will happen to them. A big box in the attic, most likely.

So when we decided to redecorate his room, we put them to use. Here are several ways we used them…

Dresser: The handles were replaced with hockey pucks. A small hole drilled in the back of the puck, a wood screw, and some gorilla glue did the job. Extra pucks were placed in the middle of the drawer front.

Closet: Door handles were replaced just like the dresser.

Night Table/Stand: Drawer handles replaced with pucks. The top of the table was covered with pucks and made a great no slip surface.

Storage Chest: Handles and feet were replaced with pucks.

Bathroom Vanity: All drawer and door handles replaced with pucks.

Window Valence: Instead of the cloth valance that was hanging, we made one using 1x4 and painted it white. We then screwed on the pucks from behind and mounted it.

This use up most of his pucks and they are all displayed in his room. The “special” and autographed pucks were saved and still remain is cases on his wall. Maybe you can use some of these ideas and projects.
