"I got nothin' for ya", said the Manager
"I got nothin' for ya," said the Manager
Always willing to try a new restaurant for dinner, my wife suggested that the family eat at a local Red, Hot & Blue. She and the “ladies lunch club” had eaten there earlier in the week and raved about the food and service. Why not give it a try? I am always in the mood for good 'barbeque, blues and southern hospitality', as there tag line states.
So the four of us enter the restaurant, are seated promptly in a corner booth and start looking at the menu. The restaurant is about three-quarters full and most tables are finishing up. Having decided what to order, we wait…and we wait…until finally a server comes to greet us. We really threw the server off her routine when we wanted to order drinks and our meal at the same time. Strike one: slow and unresponsive service.
The drinks come and we proceed to wait…and we wait…until the food arrives. Well, most of the food arrives. Of course it was my meal that was missing. The staff that brought the food from the kitchen goes back and…disappears. A few minutes later our server returns and notices that I am not eating. ‘oh, you didn’t get your food’…doh!. Strike two: Four adults, three meals, do the math.
My wife begins to eat her “All In” Burger and literally gags on the third bite. She ordered medium rare, but it was medium raw. Literally…raw. So now the server returns with my meal and I tell her about the mooing meat that was given to my wife. Strike three: Half the meals ordered were inedible…mine was invisible, my wife’s uncooked.
The server left and came back with the manager. He was evidently informed as to the rash of problems and gave the best, and most honest, response I have ever heard at a restaurant. He said, “I got nothin’ for ya”. He added that he couldn’t even think up a good lie of an excuse. He apologized and said they would redo the burger and have it out as quickly as possible and...cooked.
After we finished eating, the manager came over again to make sure we were okay. He then comped our entire meal and gave us a card for a full dinner for four, anything on the menu, if we would just give his restaurant another chance. Because of this manager, and his honesty, I will try them again.
