Double Ds Comes to Dallas
Double Ds Comes to the Big D
That’s right. “Time to make the donuts”. DD, as in Dunkin’ Donuts (sorry to you readers who were expecting some other kind of picturesque DD), is finally coming to Dallas and surrounding Metroplex area in mass. Being a transplanted New Englander, I have been waiting years for this day. DD’s is going to open over 50 stores in the next few years in North Dallas and surrounding areas and I vow to try and visit them all. No more hearing about Krispy Kreme crud, no more having to go order in Starbuckese, no more going through a fast food drive thru and being asked if I want to supersize my coffee.
The first “real” Dunkin’ Donuts opened on the corner of Preston and Campbell today and I had to make a stop for a couple of coffees and a “few” donuts to bring back to the office for everyone to try. I’m talking actual donuts, not some light and airy product soaked in sugar that when compressed is about the size of a donut hole. And I do believe that DD was the originator of the donut hole product. I’m talking about a belly-bomb, a pastry with substance, something that stays with you long after you’ve thrown out the napkin.
Growing up and living in the Northeast for the majority of my life, I got used to passing (and stopping at) a DD no matter where I drove. When I would commute down Route 1 to Boston Logan Airport, I would pass at least seven DDs. Fresh coffee (and a bathroom for the previous cup of coffee) was never more that a few lights away. This afternoon was a trip down memory lane.
My order consisted of:
Large Regular – Real coffee, a few scoops of sugar and cream.
Large Regular Light and Sweet – Real coffee, a few more scoops of sugar, a few more squirts of cream.
Ladies Large Regular – Decaf Coffee, Sweet’n Low, skim milk.
Donuts: Glazed, Chocolate Glazed, Jelly, Boston Kreme, Chocolate Iced, Pink Iced with Sprinkles, Chocolate Cream, Powdered, Blueberry, Maple Frosted.
I did enjoy the large regular and three donuts…so much for dinner.
